Displaying custom fields on iPhone

Good morning!

I am just working my way through the xcellent “The complete guide to story planning in Aeon Timeline” and tying to use AEON as my main plotting/planning program.

The writing I would like to do in another program (iAWriter), so I created a custom field in events, a link. I then choose a file an my iCloud Drive, and clicking that link the file opens in iAWriter.

Now, when I switch to my iPhone, open the timeline, open the event I do not see my custom field, I do not even see something like the inspector.

What am I doing wrong?

Good morning Wolfgang,

You can access the Inspector and your custom fields on iPhone, although the way you open the Inspector is slightly different from the desktop version.

To open an Event in the Inspector:

  1. Tap the Event once. This will select the Event and display the Edit/Pencil button.
  2. Tap the Event again.
  3. The Event will open in the Inspector, where you can view its fields, including your custom fields.

You can also access the Inspector using Edit mode:

  1. Long press on an item to enter Edit mode. A blue toolbar will appear at the top of the screen.
  2. Tap the item or items you want to select.
  3. Tap the Edit/Pencil icon in the toolbar to open the selected item in the Inspector.

Hello, Riaan!

Thanks for help, but this does not work.

1.) I open up my timeline, select the Tab “Events”.

2.) On the left side of the window I tap on the number of the event.

3.) Three dots appear.

4.) Tapping the three dots pops up “Select in inspector”.

5.) Tapping that does nothing.

Neither long press nor the way you described works, it always ends with “Select in inspector” an nothing happens.

Selecting the Tab “Timeline” and tapping an event opens up a window, where I can only tap “Select in inspector”. I can not add characters, Arcs, Locations, ans “select in inspector” on a character, for example, opens a window where I can edit the character.

Main thing I want to do is cleaning up items, adding characters, locations, arcs.

I found no way to do that.

Hi Wolfgang,

Thank you for testing this and for describing what happens.

We have confirmed that Select in Inspector is not working correctly in the currently released iOS version. This is a bug and will be fixed in a future release.

In the meantime, you can open an item in the Inspector using the following workaround:

  1. Tap the item once to select it.
    • In a table View, tap the left-most column showing the row number.
  2. Tap the same item a second time in the same location.
  3. The item will open in the Inspector.

From there, you can edit the item and manage information such as its Characters, Locations, and Arcs.

Ok, Problem solved: my bad!

I switched to a new iPhone. On the old iPhone I logged out of my account, and on the new iPhone I forgot to log in to my account. I was in read-only all the time. Duh.

I logged in and I can work with AEON again.

May I suggest a small “You are in demo mode”-banner in the files panel?
