Expand parent bug

Where has the REPORT BUG topic gone?

I believe there’s a bug with the EXPAND PARENT ITEM.

I have multiple events in a group called ALL EVENTS but I have also grouped the same events into different groups. If the events are contained within a parent, the EXPAND PARENT ITEM command wont expand all parents in all groups. It only expands the first parent item in the top most group.

I’ve included an example below (please excuse the spelling mistakes)…

Hi JustAlex,

Thanks for the detailed explanation and screenshots - they make it very clear what you’re seeing.

You can expand all of the parent items by right-clicking the arrow on one of the parent items and selecting “Expand all items”. This should expand the parent items across the groups, including where the same events appear in multiple groups.

I can also see why you expected the Expand Parent Item command in the app menu to provide an equivalent way of doing this after selecting the items.

Thanks for the feedback. We’ll consider adding an Expand all items option to the app menu as well, so this functionality is available from there rather than only through the parent item’s context menu.

Thank you. I just tried it using the right click contextual menus and it works as expected. So there’s a difference between:

SELECT ALL - VIEW - EXPAND PARENT ITEM; and

SELECT ALL - RIGHT CLICK - EXPAND ALL ITEMS.

This is confusing because the VIEW MENU provides the options to expand and collapse GROUPS and PARENTS. Whereas RIGHT CLICK - EXPAND ALL ITEMS actually only expands PARENTS, not GROUPS.

PARENTS should = PARENTS

GROUPS should = GROUPS

ALL should = PARENTS and GROUPS

It would also be helpful if all commands were in the menus and a subset available in contextual menus.

Hi JustAlex,

Thanks for following up and laying out the distinction between the different commands.

I understand your logic around Parents, Groups, and All, and can see how having the commands behave and be named consistently between the View menu and the right-click context menu would make this clearer.

Your suggestion about having the full set of commands available from the menus, with the relevant subset also available from the context menus, is useful as well.

We’ll pass this feedback on to the development team for consideration.

Thanks again for taking the time to explain how you would expect these options to work.

Best,
