I need multiple timelines. To write a story, I first need to be able to take notes. Some notes need to have dates on a timeline of HISTORICAL EVENTS. Some need to be placed in approximate position on a story timeline (the PLOT aka the sequence of events as presented) using page numbers and syncs with Scrivener. Some need to appear on BOTH timelines.
I’m a beta tester and well acquainted with options and workarounds. The Narrative isn’t useful because its features are limited and it doesn’t sync with Scrivener, which is odd since the Plot is the story and what I’m writing from in Scrivener. There is no substitute for being able to see the timeline of the Plot which shows non-chronological events, e.g., when flashbacks occur in the story.
Anyone else need this? Any chance we’ll get this soon?
I added an extra folder at the act level in my book and called it plotting events. I added a multitext field called story notes. I add this as a sync folder with Aeon and can add notes about timeline, plotting, etc.
Now here is the trick I sync to the same novel but sync to the Plotting Events Folder rather than the manuscript and the documents inside it become events, but you could make notes and arrange by your plot in any way you want and bookmark to story events in Scrivener, use dates, etc. With story notes have this made visible on the event card and put in notes to your heart content that you can see in the narrative view to order the events. The narrative order which you control would be the plot timeline. yes this would be a new timeline, but you could have both displayed on one or two monitors to work with. When compile, just ignore and only compile your manuscript. Below are some images.
