Narrative shows every detail from Timeline 3 (Mac)

I created a Narrative from the Timeline but the result shows character names, dates & time which is OK but when I remove them from the Narrative they disappear from the Timeline! Deleting all the Narrative to manually create a Narrative removes all info from the Timeline.

I have tried going into my mac’s Time Machine backup and selecting the previous timeline file that doesn’t have any Narative [I number them as I finish a bit of work building my Timeline] and pasting it into my working folder. Then I open the file only to find the Narrative pane with a Narrative!

What is happening?

As i said above, I’d created my Narrative with the information from my Timeline, and so all my chapters were classed as Events. When I tried changing the top level to Narrative Folders I was warned that I may lose the Date info, but what actually happened was that it took ALL of the chapter!

This time I’m not going to try exporting both views, editing the relevant columns in both files, and then importing the .csv files without confirmation that this would fix the problem.

I need help!!

Hi,

Thanks for providing all the details about what you’ve been experiencing.

From your description, I’m not yet certain what’s causing the behaviour, so I’d like to gather a little more information before suggesting a solution.

Could you please confirm whether you’re working in a Narrative view? You can check this by looking at the top-left of the view header, where it should display Narrative.

If possible, could you also send us one of the following:

  • A short screen recording showing the steps that lead to the issue.

  • A series of screenshots showing each step.

  • A copy of your .aeon file.

If your project contains private information, you’re welcome to email any of these directly to support@aeontimeline.com instead of posting them on the forum.

Regarding your backups, if your manual backups don’t contain the version you’re looking for, you can also check Aeon Timeline’s automatic backups:

Steps

  1. Click File.

  2. Select Manage Backups.

  3. Browse the available backups.

  4. Select the version you’d like to restore and save it to your computer.

Once we have your screenshots, screen recording, or project file, we’ll be able to investigate further and work out what’s causing the issue.

Kind regards,

Riaan
