I’m trying to set a start date for a character with an uncertain year of birth. I’ve set the date option to uncertain and can see the boxes for earliest date and latest date, but I can’t seem to actually set different earliest and latest dates. Whatever I set one of the dates to, the other date box immediately auto updates itself to match.
Is there something I’m missing in order to use this functionality properly?

You’re not missing anything obvious! Uncertain dates can be a little fiddly to set up, and it’s something we’d like to improve in the future.
When testing this, I found that setting the dates in the following order worked well:
Set your Earliest Start date first. This will automatically update the Latest End date to match.
Change the Latest End date to the latest possible date.
Set your Latest Start date to a date after the Earliest Start.
Finally, set your Earliest End date to a date before the Latest End.
Done!

Thanks - the item I was trying to set up is ongoing, but putting in a placeholder end date allowed me to set up the uncertain start and once that was set up I was able to set the end date to ongoing and retain the uncertain start.
